Tonight saw the first night of the X Factor live shows where 13 contestants began their battle to be crown the winner of X Factor 2012. The first show presented the artists with whitened teeth, big hair, new threads and new swag. The male contestants looked like they were wearing heavy mascara, or even false lashes, and lots of make up. So, how did the first night of the biggest talent show in the world pan out?
The most nail biting aspect of the whole show was obviously the wild card decision. Dermot announced the winner right at the beginning of the show. Revealing that big ballad crooner Chris Maloney had won the coveted 13th place. Many people tweeted "He did not deserve to go through, he is a Butlins singer" Some tweeted "It's obviously a fix, the others have probably got a record deal already."
The judges looked slick and smart, with Tulisa going back to her trademark dark hair. Nicole looking simple in a black number and scraped back hair. Gary looking business-like in his black suit and tie, and Louis looking casual with an open neck shirt.

The theme of the night was heroes, a tribute to the athletes of the London 2012 Olympics. With Olympians and game makers in the audience it promised to be a heartfelt night, with touching songs of bravery and glory.
The first performance came from the next X Factor boy band sensation District 3. The group changed their name from GMD3 to District 3 after Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh express their dislike. The three talented youngsters sang Simply the Best and put their own modern twist on it. The performance was a hit with the judges with Tulisa saying she "loved their R n b vocals." The young lads are being touted as the next One Direction, and are already being tipped for the top. Not much pressure then huh?
Another 1D wannabe band to hit the stage was Union J, who were previously Triple J. A fourth member was added to the group to form the new band line up. They performed classic Queen track Don't Stop me Now and received a slating from the judges. With Gary branding the performance "catastrophic" Louis brushed it off by saying they still have a lot of work to do.
Another awkward performance came from urban duo MK1. They performed Champion by Chipmunk and Chris Brown. The vocals were far from star quality, although they did provide the audience with an energetic and lively performance.
The standout performances of the night came from Sixteen-year-old Ella Henderson who performed "Rule the World" by Take That. Gary Barlow said it was "extraordinary" and she received the first standing ovation of the night. Dressed in a cute prom dress, she owned the stage and provided the first tear jerking performance of the night.
Another amazing performance came from Melanie Mason who brought you back to the sixties with her Janice Joplin get up.
Supermarket worker Jahmene Douglas overcame his nerves to belt out an amazing version of Imagine by John Lennon. Although, you could tell he was slightly nervous, he pulled it off.
The performance that was surrounded with a whole lot of hype but was highly disappointing was Lucy Spraggan's performance. For the first time in X Factor history she performed her own song, the self penned song was called Mountains, but it failed to live up to her first audition. She looked, and sounded nervous, and almost awkward on the stage.
One of the most eagerly anticipated performances came from James Arthur. When he first appeared in the auditions he had a scruffy, edgy appeal that was lost behind all the grooming. He sang his own version of Stronger by Kelly Clarkson, and added his own twist with a rap verse. His signature gravelly vocals sounded good but some of the edge was lost. His guitar was absent from the performance, this might have been one of the reasons it did not deliver the same goosebump feeling as his first audition. Gary Barlow said he should not lose that "edge."
The other performances were far from memorable, with Jade Ellis performing Enrique Iglasias, and Kye Sones singing Man in the Mirror, there were only a couple of really rich, splendid performances out of the 13
.
Hopefully next week deliver some more outstanding performances, after they over the first show nerves become a thing of the past.
Tomorrow the results of the public vote will be announced, predictions Carolynne Poole from the over 28's category will probably be leaving. Her performance of Meant to Fly by Nicki Minaj was far from memorable. The boy band Union J might leave the competition as their performance was a bit of a mess. Over the top camp character Rylan might also be in the running to go. Who goes? You Decide!
Tomorrow's show includes performances from Ne-Yo and previous X Factor winner Leona Lewis.
